Comfort Kits

Natural hazards, disasters, and emergencies can happen at all hours of the day. Providing children with the resources to stay safe on their own or in the classroom is a valuable asset to our community. Parents should compile an Emergency Comfort Kit for their child to help their kids stay calm when being in an emergency situation.

Creating an Emergency Comfort Kit for your child:

Label a one-gallon Ziploc bag with your child’s name and include the following:

  • 1 pair of underwear enclosed in a small re-sealable bag
  • 1 pair of socks
  • 2 ready to eat snack items. Low or no salt items are best.
Recommended items include:
-granola bars, dried fruit, trail mix, small can of fruit, tuna-snack pack, low sodium jerky, etc…
  • plastic spoon (if needed)
  • One 33 gallon garbage bag (to make a poncho from)
  • One space blanket
  • 1 bottle water
  • 1 bottle juice
  • Comforting note and/or picture from home (optional)
  • Particle/dust mask
  • glow stick (optional)
  • additional 1 gallon re-sealable bag

Additional disaster preparedness items needed by the school (optional):

Clean, old sheets ( to cover electronic equipment etc…)
Duct tape
First Aid kit
Extra masks
